Three courses will be offered this semester.  The semester classes are on Wednesdays from January 15th through May 7th.  There will be no classes on April 16th and 23rd.

Greek Words and Roots (For ages 8 and above, No Prerequisite): Did you know that 90% of science vocabulary comes from Greek?  This course will teach the student how to read and write the most common Greek words that appear in English literature and the sciences and, thereby, help prepare the student for future educational endeavors through the knowledge of Greek roots.  The only book needed is a standard English dictionary. The student should expect approximately fifteen minutes of work outside of class.  If the student is below 12, it is required that at least one parent attend with the child so as to help keep attention and further incorporate what is taught into the other subjects of study.

Level I: 8:00-8:30am Pacific (No Prerequisite)

Level II: 9:00-9:30am Pacific (Greek Words and Roots Level I is a Prerequisite)

Deciphering Greek Inscriptions of Early Christian Iconography (For ages 8 and above, Greek Words and Roots Level I is a Prerequisite):  Did you know that the primary language of the early Christians was Greek?  They read the Old Testament in Greek, they wrote the New Testament in Greek, their religious services were conducted in Greek, and their religious artwork was inscribed with Greek titles, explanations, and quotes from Sacred Scripture.  Did you ever wonder what the IC and XC mean on icons of Jesus or why is there an O, W, and N in the cross in his halo?  What is the history of the XP (chi rho) and the IHS?  What you will learn will surprise you!  The student should expect approximately fifteen minutes of work outside of class.  There is no book needed for this course. If the student is below 12, it is required that at least one parent attend with the child so as to help keep attention and further incorporate what is taught into the other subjects of study.

10:00-10:30am Pacific (Greek Words and Roots Level I is a Prerequisite)

Learning to Read and Speak Ancient Greek (For ages 8 and above, Greek Words and Roots Level I and Deciphering Greek Inscriptions are both Prerequisites): While most ancient Greek Courses teach the student only how to translate Ancient Greek into the student's own language, the Academy of Classical Greek teaches students to speak Ancient Greek as a modern living language, thereby enabling the student to read and understand ancient literature, concepts, and vocabulary as a native speaker thousands of years ago.  Now that's real language acquisition! The student should expect approximately thirty minutes of work outside of class, five days a week. If the student is below 12, it is required that at least one parent attend with the child so as to help keep attention and further incorporate what is taught into the other subjects of study. The textbook Living Koine Greek is required for these courses.  Click the Textbook tab above for more information and make sure that you use the discount code (sent out by email for registered students) before ordering.  This semester, we are running the beginning Level II only (Beginning Level I is a Prerequisite and was available this past fall and will be available, God willing, next fall as well).

Beginning Level II: 11:00-11:30am Pacific (Beginning Level I Learning to Read and Speak is a Prerequisite)
